"HKU Shanghai 2026 × Future Forum" is a forward-looking journey of personal growth designed to help students find their path in an era of rapid AI transformation. The program offers students an exclusive opportunity to engage closely with key figures, cutting-edge ideas, and innovative environments that are shaping the future world.

At the outset of the program, students will attend high-level sessions led by HKU Shanghai's professors and entrepreneurial talent to gain insights into macro trends and real-world business challenges in the AI era. Subsequently, they will participate in case studies with scientists from the Future Forum, integrating theoretical knowledge with practical innovation through face-to-face exchanges.

Guided by HKU professors and industry instructors, students will engage in experiential learning. Through hands-on workshops, rapid prototyping, and a mini-expo, they will apply learned concepts to real-world problems, test their ideas, and experience the satisfaction of building solutions in authentic innovation settings.

A series of high-quality, exclusive activities will immerse students in Shanghai’s innovation ecosystem. They will visit the COMAC C919 project—China’s first independently developed large passenger aircraft—to understand how advanced engineering, national-level R&D, and global aviation aspirations converge in this major technological achievement. During their studies at HKU Shanghai, students will reside at the HKU Zhangjiang base engaging closely with HKU professors and current students while participating in tailored academic and career development dialogues. This immersive environment will allow them to experience firsthand HKU’s learning atmosphere, and the unique advantages of Shanghai as a global innovation hub.

The program features a special face-to-face exchange session between young people from Hong Kong and Shanghai and young scientists to discuss cutting-edge technology and career paths. Additionally, participants will visit laboratories to observe cutting-edge research projects up close, gaining firsthand insight into the research capabilities and innovative atmosphere of top-tier universities, and building a cross-regional, cross-disciplinary platform for youth scientific exchange.

About the Future Forum

The Future Forum is one of China’s most prestigious non-governmental scientific public welfare organizations, jointly founded in 2015 by a group of scientists and entrepreneurs who champion science and are passionate about public service. Since its inception, the Future Forum has upheld the grand mission of “promoting the spirit of science and contributing to national revitalization through scientific and technological innovation.” It has comprehensively advanced the development of science communication and the integration of industry, academia, research, and capital, striving to serve as a “communicator” of science to the public, a “bridge” between the scientific community and industry, and a “catalyst” for scientific breakthroughs through private capital. To date, it has brought together hundreds of globally distinguished scientists, top-tier investors, and outstanding industry leaders. In 2016, the Future Forum established the Future Science Prize to recognize scientists who have conducted original research with international impact, primarily in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan.

Do I need to apply for a Hong Kong student visa?

If you do not have the right of abode in Hong Kong, regardless of the length of study, you are required by law to obtain a Student Visa for the purpose of education, issued by the Hong Kong Immigration Department (ImmD).

For students currently staying in Hong Kong holding a valid student visa (NOT a dependent visa), if you are currently studying at another local university, you are not eligible to apply for any courses at HKU. This restriction is due to the conditions of your current student visa.

It is the responsibility of individual students to make appropriate visa arrangement before they come to Hong Kong.
